About The Opportunity
This position is part of a newly established Health Literacy Unit that sits in the Multicultural Services of SWSLHD. It will be responsible for contributing to the development of local strategies that will help consumers from diverse backgrounds obtain, understand and act on health information and engage with health initiatives. The position reports directly to the Manager, Health Literacy as well as working with other multicultural health promotion officers in the Health Literacy Unit.

What you'll be doing
This position will primarily work with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities to develop and implement evidence-based and/or innovative programs designed to:

  • Improve and maintain population health and reduce inequalities in health outcomes for CALD communities.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the SWSLHD Health literacy Roadmap and deliver health literacy programs to all communities across SWSLHD
  • Raise awareness in local communities of risk factors and health issues, and how to access appropriate services

How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in health, welfare or related social sciences or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in health promotion and development/implementation of programs and activities
  • Demonstrated experience in the health or community sector working and communicating effectively with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds
  • High level written and verbal communication skills including ability to communicate effectively with health and community sector staff from a wide range of disciplines
  • Understanding of and commitment to evidence-based health promotion activities and programs
  • Computer skills including competency in the use of Microsoft products & Experience and understanding of social media platforms e.g. Facebook
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
