Baraja is changing the world of self-driving cars through the invention of a new type of LiDAR called Spectrum-Scan™ that delivers ultra-high performance at high resolution, even at incredibly far distances. The Opportunity
In partnership with Tier 1 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) Qualcomm-Veoneer and Tier IV, we are jointly re-inventing LiDAR towards its miniaturisation behind the windshield. This seamless automotive integration can help autonomous vehicle achieve full autonomy (Level 4), thereby improving safety on our roads.

Your Role

On the road to high-volume automotive LiDAR adoption, we are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to help us with first, exceeding automotive standards; and second, the timely design and delivery of our automotive LiDAR systems.

The role reports to our Systems Engineering Manager and cross-functionally collaborate with Engineering (e.g. Electronics, Mechanics, Software, Firmware, Optical, etc) and Advanced Manufacturing.

The V-model we follow is comprising of the following steps:

  • System requirements, architectural designs and trade-off analyses
  • Subsystem requirements, subsystem trade-off analyses
  • Light generation and modulation schemes
  • Homodyne detection and noise analyses
  • Link budget and error budget calculations
  • Selection of receiver topologies
  • Completion of performance models and predictions

You'll federate the teams around the following

  • Engineering
    • Develop engineering responses to market and customer requirements
    • Develop innovative and cost-effective solutions and architectural proposals that address market needs
    • Provide technical guidance for the generation of component, subsystem and system test and validation plans with full traceability back to the system and subsystem requirements
  • Verification & Validation
    • Propose and develop test beds and models to simulate the performance of new LiDAR subsystems and components along with their impact to the overall systems performance
    • Design appropriate DOEs (Design of Experiments) and analyse data and provide meaningful interpretations, conclusions, and next steps
  • Project coordination
    • Cooperate efficiently and effectively across multiple functional and multidisciplinary teams and with external partners and suppliers
    • Collaborate in matrixed project team members towards the resolution of a common goal
    • Communicate clearly and effectively – both verbally, in written documentation, and in presentations – to subject matter experts, executives, and laymen
  • Risk Management
    • Actively and carefully assess risks and develop risk mitigation plans to proactively manage potential showstoppers and avoid late delivery and cost overruns

Your Qualifications & Skills
You are a respected and sought-after technical leader that can lead large multidisciplinary high-volume product development efforts with experience in the following:

  • Technical skills
    • High-volume low-cost LiDAR or Radar sensor product development or equivalent such as high frequency test and measurement systems
    • Homo- or heterodyning receiver system development and SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) analysis
    • Multidisciplinary experience with electronics, optical, mechanical, signal processing, and algorithm development
    • Evidence of being able to make trade-offs across disciplines and develop appropriate system solutions and architectures
    • Tolerance analysis and error budgeting
    • Scripting (Python, C/C++, Matlab, etc)
  • Soft skills
    • Able to give technical direction and motivate and excite a multidisciplinary team
    • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
    • Capable of making clear conclusions and recommendations and direct subsequent follow-up work and actions
  • Academic Background
    • Tertiary education in Engineering or similar discipline

Desirable experience:

  • Experience with JMP or Minitab
  • Requirements management system software experience
