Job description

We are seeking a qualified Paediatrician work as a Visiting Medical Officer to provide clinical management and treatment of clients in a Karitane facility under your care.

This care will be provided within the scope of practice granted by the SWSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.



POSITION TITLE: Visiting Medical Officer - Paediatrician

HOURS: Up to 6 hours per week – Mondays 10am-4pm
(Up to one hour may be transferred to an agreed time on Wednesdays for follow up/telephone call or case conferencing) – Fixed term till December 2023

OPERATIONAL BASE: Camden/Carramar

VACCINATION CATEGORY: A (including full COVID-19 Vaccination)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Karitane Chief Executive Officer via Director Clinical Services

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To provide clinical and consultant paediatric services to the clients in the Camden Residential Unit on a rostered basis and for the Carramar Facility where required. (Leave relief)
  • All clients seen by the VMO will be the ongoing responsibility/case managed by a member of the Karitane staff.
  • This position involves clinical, teaching and research/service evaluation responsibilities.


Key selection criteria: (Each criteria must be addressed in your application)

Essential:
1. Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)and/or current specialist qualifications as recognised by the Health Insurance Commission)
2. Demonstrated current clinical practice of a high standard and ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice
3. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, client safety and risk management
4. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education / continuing professional development
5. Experience in the clinical assessment and management of early childhood health issues
6. Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established, if requested and credentialed
7. Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with other staff and practitioners and in a multidisciplinary health care team
8. Understanding of the principles of early intervention, prevention and health promotion
9. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, the community , other staff and other practitioners
10. Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of a public health organisation, including the provision of services to the local community, effective utilisation of resources, and preparedness to participate in the provision of health services at an Area level, if credentialed
11. Current NSW driver's licence.
