Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position (s) in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital within the Department of Surgery.

Successful applicant will be highly motivated and competent Vascular Surgeon.

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is committed to achieving continuous quality improvement in client services within a Quality Management framework with a supporting Strategic Plan aimed at the continuous improvement of all facilities. The District has individual facilities located at Penrith, Springwood, Katoomba, Lithgow, and Portland; and third schedule hospitals being Hawkesbury Hospital.

All hospitals provide a range of both in-patient and outpatient services to clients both from within the boundaries of the District and cross border flows.

In addition to this, there are a number of facilities strategically located across the District that provide primary health care services to the community.

Successful applicants will have the breadth of knowledge and skills to take responsibility for safe clinical decisions in their specialty. Able to communicate effectively with patients and Multi-Disciplinary teams including the management of difficult and complex situations with patients and their families, to advise them appropriately and to manage complaints effectively.

The successful applicant will have effective interpersonal skills to resolve conflicts when they arise and to develop and maintain productive working relationships within the team. Also assist the Department Head to implement and develop appropriate clinical outcome measures.

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, skilled professional with a commitment to providing excellent clinical care in our Surgical Department of Blue Mountains Hospital

The Order establishes mandatory requirements for health staff and persons working in health settings to be vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine.   • Possess or be eligible for registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1997 and Public Hospital (Visiting Medical Officers Fee for Service Contracts) Determination, and Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  • Sound clinical knowledge in Vascular Surgery demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.
  • Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behavior to junior medical staff.
  • Sound clinical knowledge in the subspecialty of Vascular Surgery demonstrated by relevant qualifications and/or appropriate post-Fellowship clinical experience.
  • Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied, or clinical research as required within the Department.

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Fee For Service Contract) Determination
